Subject: convert someone?
VEGETARIAN GURU LAUNCHES ANTI-MEAT CRUSADE LONDON, Sept 13 (Reuter) - A
vegetarian "guru" launched a crusade against meat-eating on Tuesday,
confidently predicting that he and his followers will be able to convert
half of Britain to vegetarianism within five years. Peter Cox, a
best-selling author and campaigner for a meat- free diet, unveiled the
plans for the so-called "V-day" campaign at the launch of a new handbook
he has written about life without meat. Cox, a flamboyant character
known for his verbal attacks on butchers and fast-food chains, is
confident each vegetarian can convince at least one other person to
convert. Then the newcomers will do the same, he said, and so on. This
would make half the country vegetarian in five years, he claimed.
Referring to a 1993 poll, Cox said six million Britons -- or 11 percent
of the population -- already do not eat red meat and each week another
2,000 join their ranks. Some 4.3 percent are full vegetarians, avoiding
"meat, flesh and fowl."
