Once again the TORONTO VEGETARIAN ASSOCIATION (TVA)
will host the
12th Annual (International) "Vegetarian Food Fair"
at the Harbourfront from September 6-8, 1996.
Those dates, the second weekend of September,
the first full weekend in September,
will be here before we know it.
Several folks from Boston are going to attend
as we did last year, when we were planning
to have our own vegetarian food fair in Boston in early 1996.
Anyone who wants to get actively involved in planning
the Boston Vegetarian Food Festival for 1997 and who
didn't work on the BVFF this past year, should visit
Toronto and have some observations to ground your
thinking.
Some of you would love to go but cannot afford to fly.
Would a number of you like to drive up?
There are already two cars going, and a larger group
could rent another car (about $50 per person for three days),
drive up AFTER WORK on Friday and arrive home
BEFORE WORK on Monday morning,
stay in a youth hostel (if we're cheap) or at a nice
vegetarian-friendly Bed and Breakfast (B&B) if we're just frugal.
We/youcould get 3-6 in a car and go in order to get there
by the next morning.
We/you could sleep on the way and share driving.
OR
any of you could arrange your own trips without me
or without such plans.
The food fair is the largest event of its kind in the world.
The local vegetarian society does this annually and
now has OVER 1800 current local dues-paying members,
earns nearly $100,000 per year in profits from the food fair,
and passes out to others the vegetarian message and
gives them opportunities to sample vegetarian foods,
vegetarian food products, etc. buy vegetarian books,
and listen to vegetarian speakers, watch vegetarian
culinary demonstrations, enjoy children's activities,
watch vegetarian videos all day long, and enjoy lots of
great vegetarian entertainment all day long, too.
Flying up might still be good. Often there are sales,
but there is less than a week to go before departure.
I suggest driving, either going with an already
planned trip, or co-renting a car for the trip.
OR, if you want to go by car
(about 10 hours drive each way, if we are direct).
People are great for sharing conversations,
and last year one MIT student managed to
get in several hours of studying each way.
If you're an activist in Boston and want to participate
in the vegetarian food fair here in Boston,
and you believe that it would be nice to be able to
see one operate successfully,
your presence and participation would be most appreciated.
If you are just going for the fun of it, your attendance
and participation would be appreciated just as much
ANYWAY.
