Good evening,
The Athena Release Team is pleased to announce the availability of the
alpha version of the upcoming Debathena cluster release, based on Ubuntu
14.04 (Trusty). We would like your assistance testing this.
If you wish to test debathena-workstation, you should download and set up
stock Ubuntu 14.04. Once it is set up and connected to the network
(ideally with a static IP address), you can download
https://debathena.mit.edu/install-debathena.sh and run it.
For those of you with hardware (physical or a virtual machine) and a free
hostname, please help test debathena-cluster. You may test this version
by booting your machine over the network (PXE), selecting the "Debathena"
option, and at the menu, following the instructions to change the
distribution to "trusty", and then proceeding with a normal cluster
installation.
Because this is an alpha release, we are still in active development, and
in order to receive updates of bug fixes, you may want to ensure that the
hostname you are using for testing is a member of the "alpha-linux" Hesiod
cluster. (Non-debathena-cluster users should read
http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/AWcYCQ for instructions to enable the
testing repository.)
As a reminder, debathena-cluster machines require a static IP address and
completely overwrite all content on the hard drive. If you plan on
testing inside VMWare Workstation, or another virtual environment, please
be sure to configure the network adapter to "Bridged", and allocate a
minimum of 1GB of RAM and 20GB of disk to the virtual machine. (Note that
if your host machine (the machine on which you are running VMWare
Workstation itself) useles a wireless connection, you will not be able to
use Bridged networking.)
Please report testing results using the testers@mit.edu mailing list, or
better yet, by editing the wiki page at

Known issues are also listed there.
