At some point I got a message that I needed to be running "Ubuntu
Classic" but at no point did I see any obvious place where I could have
chosen that. I was trying multiple things and it's hard to remember
exactly what came up in what sequence. Basically as I recall, when I
opted to install the installer came right up (in graphical mode) and
there was no choice other than to pick installation options.

Well I'm beyond that point now as I installed Maverick and upgraded. I
could boot the CD; and the install failed after it got started and ran
for a few steps; I don't recall exactly which one it was on when it
failed. If I do this again I'll try to keep better track of exactly what
went on. And I'd curious to know if others run into similar problems.
