Hi David -
We're aware of these problems (and have a ticket in our bugtracker
for them: http://debathena.mit.edu/trac/ticket/155). They have to do
with the fact that the printing setup on Debathena is currently in
something of a transitional state. We plan to have the kinks worked out
by the summer deployment of Debathena to the clusters. In the mean time,
the best thing I can recommend is to try using evince, which is the
standard PDF reader on Ubuntu. It does a better job of integrating with
CUPS printing.
