I'm going through my old testers@ mail that hasn't gotten replies to that 
list... Sounds like this was addressed by andersk in Ubuntu bug #348865, 
which was fixed on April 15. I can no longer reproduce jhawk's or price's 
test cases.

jhawk, I'm hoping this fixes the fact that M-x mail could fail silently; 
could you check this?
