Thanks for the information; we really need to solve the problem though; do
we do that by making sure all hosts on those lines are fully qualified?
Fundamentally whose responsibility is it to fix this- "we should edit
our hosts files", or "the vendors should be doing something different
that will work with non-fully qualified hosts", or "Ubuntu should fix this"?
Even if we decided on 2. or 3. or both, neither may be willing to do anything
about it in a reasonable time frame so we may be stuck with 1.
