It seems like there isn't a JRE or JDK installed by default on Athena
10 Workstation (or if there is, I can't find it). Is this intended?

Also, a related observation- many Java applications run on Ubuntu 8.04
generate much Java complaint spewage when launched, but for the most part
seem to run properly. I've seen this commented on a good deal in googling.

It seems there's some incompatibility between 8.04 and many Java
runtime versions out there (many Java applications come with their own JRE
like the Java versions of Matlab, Maple etc.). It would be nice if this could
be turned off or worked around but I'm not sure if that can easily be done.
