"host" returns duplicate information

On both scyther.mit.edu and mrow.mit.edu (Linux and Solaris Athena 9.4.9
respectively), the host command returns duplicate information when asked
about a cname.
For example:
[~ scyther]% host athena.dialup.mit.edu
athena.dialup.mit.edu is an alias for home-on-the-dome.mit.edu.
home-on-the-dome.mit.edu has address 18.7.16.76
athena.dialup.mit.edu is an alias for home-on-the-dome.mit.edu.
athena.dialup.mit.edu is an alias for home-on-the-dome.mit.edu.
[~ scyther]% host csw.mit.edu
csw.mit.edu is an alias for COLECO-SIDEWINDER.mit.edu.
COLECO-SIDEWINDER.mit.edu has address 18.187.2.149
csw.mit.edu is an alias for COLECO-SIDEWINDER.mit.edu.
csw.mit.edu is an alias for COLECO-SIDEWINDER.mit.edu.
grobda.mit.edu, a Linux-Athena 9.3.18 machine, on the other hand, gives:
[~ grobda]% host athena.dialup.mit.edu
athena.dialup.mit.edu is an alias for grumpy-fuzzball.mit.edu.
grumpy-fuzzball.mit.edu has address 18.7.16.79
[~ grobda]% host csw.mit.edu
csw.mit.edu is an alias for COLECO-SIDEWINDER.mit.edu.
COLECO-SIDEWINDER.mit.edu has address 18.187.2.149
