I had a strange login problem on cutter-john (9.4.6 athena linux) - I was
able to log in, but once the messages on the console reached "Initializing
settings" nothing else happened - no terminal, no panel. I tried
restarting X, and also rebooting, and had the same problem. Other
messages did pop up in the console (Sam logged in under me to try to
figure out what was going on, and I got a root login alert message). I
was finally able to log in with no problems using my test account, which
has virtually no customizations. What's puzzling is that I've been able
to log in to cheshire-cat (also 9.4.6 athena linux) using my customizations,
with no problems at all.

Thanks,
Erica
