I rebuilt it with SSL, so you can at least access https: URLs;
it will be available (as lynx-2.8.5) after the next volume release.

Note that in this version, lynx will prompt you about any unknown
certificate, as follows:

    SSL error:unable to get local issuer certificate-Continue? (y)

There is a config setting, FORCE_SSL_PROMPT, which controls
this.  While it might be annoying to get this prompt on every
https: connection, I don't think we just want to disable it
by default.

Let me know if you're still interested in working on this, and
I'll give you the necessary bits for infoagents (you may live
to regret this :) ).
