A variation on (and not necessarily mutually exclusive with) the
update_ws hack is to provide a script which the administrator
can run, which offers a choice of either creating just the missing
header symlinks, or applying the entire jumbo patch. The extra
effort required to support this may not be justified by the benefit
derived, though.
