I think the only problem with your system was the mode-700
/usr/kerberos.  I suspect that was a preexisting condition which used to
be harmless, but is now harmful.  I suspect you got into that state by
performing an update in the non-recommended way (you're not supposed to
su and run update_ws; you're supposed to do a console login as root)
before we added defenses against that mistake to our update script.
