If AFS is not supported, we should remove it from the release. Since
staff members are forced to use AFS, I don't think a credible case can be
made for this. Therefore, AFS being a part of the Athena environment we
should make an effort to have it work as well as possible. This means not
wasting 47 megabytes on VAX 3100s (or > 30 meg on new RTs, etc...).
I have never heard of a requirement that staff members change the
configuration of their workstations. AFS perfomance with a 2 megabyte
cache is poor when the working set size is much larger than this (as it is
for me and many others). This implies a need for a more flexible AFS
configuration _before_ we use AFS for Athena supported software delivery.
The time for partial support of AFS passed when 6.3 hit the field.
