pine can't start acroread

If I try to view a pdf attanchment from within pine
using the viewer it tells me "sh: acroread: not found"
This happens unless I have already added the acro
locker.
It seems like having to add the acro locker should not
necessarily be a prerequisite for viewing attachments
in one's mail. (Especially since the program needs to
be quit, the locker added, and then restarted).
