"Yup, it's broken, all right." Some research indicates it's a change
in Solaris 9 (and apparently backported to Solaris 8 in some patch we
don't have) which breaks emacs' handling of subprocesses. I haven't
found anything to indicate that any fix has been implemented in more
recent releases of emacs or even at the head of their tree.
