athdir not working properly on Athena 9.2 Suns?

athdir doesn't seem to be working properly for me on central (Sun running 9.2),
but I don't know if this is caused indirectly by the same issue that has
ATHENA_SYS set incorrectly; to be specific: I set ATHENA_SYS to sun4x_59
by hand, and run a script that executes:
athdir -f "/mit/soffice_v6.0/distrib/%s"
Directory /mit/soffice_v6.0/distrib contains sun4x_58 and i386_linux24 (among
other things). The athdir command is returning an empty string but I'm
expecting /mit/soffice_v6.0/distrib/sun4x_58.
