On Solaris and IRIX, update_ws is not responsible for reattaching new
system packs for a full update. (It will go ahead and reattach old
packs if a safety check fails for an automatic update, but that's not
relevant.) So I conclude that Gary attached the 9.1 system packs and
ran "update_ws 9.1". That smail failure to follow the instructions had
no consequence; he would have had the same problem following the
instructions correctly.
If he merely did "update_ws 9.1" without attaching the new packs,
nothing would have happened:
small-gods# tail -1 /etc/athena/version
Athena Server (sun4) Version 9.0.27 Sat Jun 8 03:57:40 EDT 2002
small-gods# cat /srvd/.rvdinfo
Athena RVD (sun4) Version 9.0.27 Fri May 24 14:56:36 EDT 2002
small-gods# update_ws 9.1
It appears you already have this update.
