You can look at /usr/athena/bin/pine; it's just a script. It never
touches anything other than .athena-pine-noask or
.athena-sipb-pine-noask.
Also, if you didn't have valid tokens, there's no way your homedir could
have been modified when you ran pine.
If you can reproduce this, please collect more precise data on the state
of your .pinerc after you quit pine for the first time.
