Thanks, this seems to have solved my problem.  One strange thing that
occured though was the following 'killed' message during patch
installation.  It only occured once and it hasn't caused any problems
that I've noticed, but another sun that I updated logged something
similar too.

> (by default, installation will continue in 60 seconds)

> Verifying sufficient filesystem capacity (dry run method)...
> Installing patch packages...

Strangely, I experienced a different problem when I tried to update a
different machine (my sunblade).  It logged the following many times:

> /usr/sbin/patchadd[83]: pkg: is read only
> 
> Pkgadd failed. See /var/tmp/108528-13.log.1742 for details
> Removing partially installed patch
> 
> Checking installed patches...
> 
> Backing out patch 108528-13...
> 
> Patch number 108528-13 backout packages were not found.
> Patch 108528-13 has been backed out.
> 
> Skipping patch 108528-13

before eventually claiming to successfully install the patch.
/var/tmp/108528-13.log.1742 says:

> This appears to be an attempt to install the same architecture and
> version of a package which is already installed.  This installation
> will attempt to overwrite this package.
> 
> ERROR: attribute verification of </usr/lib/mdb/kvm/sparcv9/genunix.so> failed
>     pathname does not exist

I don;t know if this is important or completely harmless, but it's
worth noting that the first machine didn't do this.  I've saved the
update.log's from both machines in if you want to see more of them.
