I've seen this on my sunblade too.  We've seen some interesting
behavior on the dialups with our integrity checker causing the machine
to hang.  Without going into all of the gory details, kolya realized
that the checker had accessed a gazillion inodes, and then done
something that flushed the log filesystem.  I wonder if we're seeing a
similar problem here.
