This looks suspiciously like the failure documented in Sun Alert
26283, titled "Host Name Lookups Might Fail When Using DNS". The
problem description does match what you describe (affects only Solaris
8, happens about 1% of the time).
The problem claims to be fixed in patch 109326-03, which is the
libresolv patch. Since the document was issued, 2 more versions of the
patch have come out, making the most recent version 109326-05. Greg,
can we get this into 9.0.10?
