Sorry if I'm being unclear: if you right-click on a menu item, there's
an option "Put into run dialog". Do that for xess and it brings up a
Run dialog with the command filled in for you; so then you hit the Run
button and you'd either get the error message (if we use NO_XALF) or
xess would launch (if we use xalf -n).
