If I use "NO_XALF gathrun xess" then "Put into run dialog" -> Run brings
up an error dialog:
Failed to execute command: NO_XALF gathrun xess
No such file or directory (2)
though it does work directly from the menu; "xalf -n gathrun xess" works
in both cases on the machine I tried (n42-253-1).
