Or rather silence. (I thought sound was known not to work on gx150s
under 8.4 but was supposed to under 9.0, but then I'm also a bit
confused about the spec at this point; more in P.S.)

I removed /tmp/.esd before login just in case, but no luck. Console
says:

13:24 Initializing settings...
13:24 /dev/dsp: No such device
[repeats a couple of dozen times]
13:24 Starting panel...

athena% ls -l /dev/dsp
crw------- 1 eclass1 sys 14, 3 Mar 23 23:38 /dev/dsp
athena% xmixer
xmixer: Can't open /dev/mixer: No such device
athena% ls -l /dev/mixer
crw------- 1 eclass1 sys 14, 0 Mar 23 23:38 /dev/mixer

RealPlayer says "Cannot open the audio device. Another application may
be using it"; xplaycd gives no errors, but no sound.

P.S. Machine has onboard sound, no PCI cards installed. saws_configs
page hasn't been updated, but NECX says:

     * 16MB PCI graphics card
     * Sound Blaster Audio PCI sound card

Then again, it calls it a "Dell GX150 Gray" and ours is that nifty
black.
