linux 9.0.4: panel and tasklist_applet crashing at login

Not sure if this helps any but after one login where panel and
tasklist_applet segfaulted, I logged out and in again as two different
test users two times each and saw the same thing happen each time; for
the next several logins it didn't happen.
Anything useful I could check if I see this again?
