Hi. This is a known failure mode which we're working on, involving
mismatched device numbers on some machines. Your workstation isn't
dead, just sleeping (the errors are from the update miniroot, not your
actual filesystem).
To recover your machine at 8.4, I believe this will work:
* stop the boot at the prom (using stop+A)
* setenv boot-device disk
* boot
With any luck, this problem should be fixed by late next Wednesday and
you can update to 9.0 then; I will also try to remember to let you
know when we have fixed it.
