This is actually (I think) a fundamental problem with libss. I found a
similar problem while hacking on olc. Basically the signal handling
sucks, and this is a fundamental flaw in the library. Reimplementing
libss didn't seem worth the trouble, especially since the bug probably
only gets tickled a couple of times a year and (afaict) doesn't cause
any particular damage.
