An O2 in N42 seemed to have encountered the same problem; a core file
was left in /etc. It died on a bus error; the stack was apparently
clobbered, and there was no useful backtrace. I'll poke at it more
when I have time; it's in ~rbasch/Public/core.named, if anyone is
interested.
