This doesn't appear to happen when logging in via telnet or from xlogin (logging in with ssh got me no tickets at all). It looks like nothing in kinit is actually setting the variable "lifetime" that gets passed to try_krb4 (in kinit.c) if you don't use the -l command line option. Initalizing this variable to something reasonable and rebuilding kinit appears to fix the problem. Garry
