What's wrong:

Pdpq gives no indication whatsoever of what the status of a printer
is. I was printing a 25 page file, and the printer ran out of
paper. I didn't realize for 10 minutes what had happened, because
"pdpq -Pcalvin -s 10" was chugging merrily along without telling me
  the printer was not printing.

What should have happened:

The queue listing should indicate the status of the printer. It is
not correct to say that a job is "Active" when it is not really
printing, unless the fact that it is not printing is noted as well
  (or, at least, I don't think it's correct :-).
