this would be an nmh change, I think?

I don't remember seeing a list of differences between nmh and mh -- kind of 
thought there weren't any significant ones.

this may be an application defaults issue?  i.e., is there a default setting 
to adjust to make scan act like the old one?

:)I'm curious as to whether this was an intentional change or not, and if
