When you do a console-style login on IRIX 6.5 (after doing CTRL-P from
xlogin), xdm repeatedly attempts to restart X (which exits as soon as
it sees that the window system has been config'ed off). This
continues perhaps indefinitely. Things seem to recover OK once you
logout from the console, and the window system is config'ed back on.
This apparently causes nsd not to respond in a timely way, so that NFS
client timeout messages will be logged, along with many xdm complaints
about the server terminating unexpectedly.
I will look into this...
