Actually, it is worse than that...  At Lehman, I could not reliably get
NTP to work, even with this patch (I had applied that fix to no avail).
As I said, I even encountered some problems with Sun's NTP on some
systems, because the clock skews have increased.  If NTP finds more than
a 1/2 second drift within 10 minutes, it doesn't try to keep the machine
in sync.  I was actually seeing this occur.

However, I will say that Sun's NTP does seem to do the job, and
although there is a later version of xntp and ntp4 exists, it is at
least a relatively recent version of xntp.

Anyway, I am glad that I could be of some assistance in diagnosing the
problem.
