wrong "add" on alpha IRIX 6.2?

When I try to add a locker on IRIX 6.2 alpha release (andrew.mit.edu),
I get the "wrong" one:

which add
/usr/sbin/add

instead of the alias.

and it tells me:

usage: add inimage1 inimage2 outimage
