I've seen these, of course.  The first one happens because an
invocation of "basname" fails in the installboot script.  Harmless,
but I don't know how to best suppress it or even warn about it without
doing something ugly (putting version-dependent stuff in update-os,
redirecting potentially important diagnostics to /dev/null).  The
second one is from untarring the pseudo-devices; we could probably fix
that by excluding /dev/fd from the tarfile.
