Athena patch release 8.1.5 just went out to the dev cell for both
platforms. The changes in this patch release were:
* machtype -A works again.
* Patches to the print spooler were incorporated to fix print
forwarding and get the new "hpif" symlinks working,
simplifying print server adminsitration.
* login doesn't try to get Kerberos 5 tickets if it couldn't
get Kerberos 4 tickets.
* A signal race condition in the Athena inetd was fixed which
could cause it to crash on occasion.
* The local changes to /usr/athena/bin/psroff from 8.0 were
restored (they had been lost), fixing printing from ez on
Solaris.
* "talk" works now. Two bugs introduced in earlier 8.1
releases were fixed, and one preexisting bug in talkd was
fixed related to finding the correct tty for a user.
* The xlogin F6 option (start over) correctly resets the name
input and password input borders. (The bug was introduced
in 8.1.3.)
* olh now pulls up a web browser, as it did in the 8.0
release, instead of invoking olh_ascii.
* Suns now reboot if a hostname change is detected at boot
time, since hostname configuration happens very early in the
boot process.
* All rc.conf variables are now supported in the startup
scripts, even when the corresponding servers are not
currently available on the packs.
* The way desynchronization of updates was modified. For
patch releases, desynchronization is done in
/srvd/auto_update as before, but for full releases it is
done in getcluster.
* The emacs site-start file has variable settings to make
mail-reading in gnus work. (The emacs binary itself was not
changed.)
* Public workstations don't copy in configuration files from
packs whose version doesn't match the local workstation
version.
* (Solaris) Suns now send a log message at boot time.
* (Solaris) login no longer sets the terminal type to vt100 if
another terminal type is set.
* (Solaris) The mode of the root directory was corrected to
not be world-writable.
* (Solaris) The default cshrc file ensures that OPENWINHOME is
set at environment initialization time.
* (SGI) The LOGIN_PROCESS utmp entry written by telnetd now
correctly uses the abbreviated tty name as expected by
login, so LOGIN_PROCESS entries won't get left lying around
any more.
* (SGI) File permission problems on /var/athena/attachtab,
/etc/named.local, and /etc/X0.hosts were fixed.
* (SGI) /etc/athena/inetd.conf was fixed to find talkd in the
correct place.
Here are instructions for propagating this patch release to the Athena
cell:
