I'd parsed `LOG_CONS - Write messages to the system console if they
cannot be sent to syslogd(1M)' to mean `write messages to the system
console if syslogd doesn't want them', not `if syslogd isn't running'.
So I thought that by adding something to syslog.conf, I'd get it to
stop spewing to the console.

It seems that my machine is behaving differently from Greg's... for
instance, I _do_ get the named startup messages in my console if I
restart it.
