The default display driver (the autocad piece that talks to the X
server) we have been using does not work with a 24 bit visual such as we
turned on in Athena 8.1. However, there is another display driver which
an Architecture faculty member has been requesting that does work in
both 8 and 24 bit modes. I plan to do the necessary magic to make
AutoCAD 13 use this GL display driver early next week.

Users running AutoCAD 13 on an SGI will see the message

-----

		     New Device Driver for AutoCAD

The default Autocad configuration file (acad.cfg) on the SGI has
modified to use the GL display driver. This driver uses 24 bit
TrueColor display mode for rendering and double-buffering for better
performance. If you have a custom autocad config file, you will need to
reconfigure AutoCAD for yourself. For more information on reconfiguring
AutoCAD, see the file

Users may be slightly confused for 30 seconds until the windows
completely appear. During this wait, you can "see" through the AutoCAD
windows to text that is, or was recently, underneath.

The amusing part about this whole deal is that the GL display driver
does not care about backing store being turned on...
