Yeah, we should update portnoy to 8.0F. Oops.
(when have I said that before?)
Somehow when the machine reboots and is single
user mode /usr/vice/etc/cacheinfo is
a zero length file.
It was necessary to replace it with a valid file in order to load afs
by hand (I just copied cacheinfo.old). It would be nice if whatever
zeroes out cacheinfo could be made to not do so.
It's fine for /etc/init.d/athena to recreate cacheinfo, but
it would be much better if you could load afs by hand without
having to go through that step?
What's the deal with loading afs by hand? There are times when you
have the machine in single user mode when you'd like to load afs
without running all the other things in /etc/init.d/athena, and not go
multiuser. In my case, I needed (or thought I did) to run savecore
after starting AFS, and wanted to minimize the executables I ran.
It ought to be easy to do.
