Ok, this should be all fixed now. There turned out to be a few things
wrong. The common script I'd created for 8.0 wasn't being symlinked
for all implementations as I had thought. Both SGI and Sun had copies
of the script to deal with some minor platform-specific configuration
issues. I merged the code fragments into the original script fixed the
symlinks. Also, neither your suggested code nor my 8.0 script code
dealt with another possible (although unlikely) problem in the case
where the XUSERFILESEARCHPATH variable was set to a null string. I
verbosified the testing a little (mostly to get around a DECstation
limitation in the Bourne shell's variable testing and setting). What
is there now appears to work.
The next time the read-write Maple volume is released (which should
be sometime in the next 24 hours) the changes should become available.
