In case it's of interest, I actually noticed the problems with this
script when miki asked me to put it in the source tree, and you'll
find a fixed version in /source/athena/bin/scripts. What I hadn't
realized was that it was already in the source tree in
/source/athena/config/files/Solaris.
(Incidentally, I don't think the xhost `hostname` is necessary.)
I'll fix the problem.
