What were you trying to do?

rkinit to another machine (hal-2000, a 7.6 DSMAXINE in the zone).

What went wrong?

If I do manage to type my password correctly, I get:

    ; rkinit hal
    Kerberos initialization (hal)
    Password for yandros@ATHENA.MIT.EDU:
    rkinit: Kerberos error
    krb_mk_req: Principal unknown (kerberos)

I'm pretty sure both hal and inf know about yandros@ATHENA.MIT.EDU,
since I have tickets as him on both machines. (not in the place
  rkinit[d] would use) :-)

What should have happened?

It should have given me tickets on hal.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Yeah, it's not just the decmips:

    ; rkinit akom
    Kerberos initialization (akom)
    Password for yandros@ATHENA.MIT.EDU:
    rkinit: Kerberos error
    krb_mk_req: Principal unknown (kerberos)
