I suspect that bert is reading this with a significant lag time, so I'll
respond, and he can correct me. :-)
The reason for the added level of indirection is that there are a *lot*
of style and doc files from the new versions of
tex/latex/amstex/bibtex/etc. I'll take a look at the sipb locker
and see what we can do about the links, but I'll admit that I'm not
clear why it should break... ???
