What were you trying to do?
I tried logging into a Sparc Classic....
What's wrong:
Hey, it worked! Sort of. I'm kind of impressed that
it didn't just hang like it does on deathtongue, SIPB's
7.6F test machine.
Here's a few of the problems I had upon logging in:
1) 14:03 Warning - you are in too many groups. Some of them will be ignored.
[Well, this happens on every platform, but maybe someone will think
about fixing it some day.]
2) 14:03 /mit/consult/sun4bin/xdimen: Command not found.
[Since I use xdimen for my xterm window geometries, I didn't get
any xterm windows upon startup. Building this is important.]
3) 14:04 Warning: Cannot convert string "/mit/rjbarbal/Bitmaps/vineandsword.xbm" to type Pixmap
[This is my screensaver bitmap, standard X11 format. If this is
an xscreensaver bug and not a sparc bug, then please forward it
to bug-sipb.]
4) 14:05 colrm: Command not found.
[Probably should be put in the standard path, and I can't
find it anywhere I'd expect it to be.]
5) /lib/cpp: not found
[You should mention in the documentation where this is found....
/usr/ccs/lib/cpp]
6) ls does not have a "-A" option. All my ls aliases fail with:
ls: illegal option -- A
usage: ls -1RadCxmnlogrtucpFbqisfL [files]
7) mh-rmail in emacs claimed I have "No new mail" when I tried running
it. In fact, it inc'd the mail I had waiting, but didn't place
the new mail in my +inbox buffer, or do a rescan. Effectively,
it lied and tried to make it look like I didn't have mail, but
handled the mail incorporation properly.
gsstark tells me "one way to win big on solaris is to put
/usr/ucb/ in your path before /bin" in one's path. He adds
"I'm sure there are problems with this but I haven't have any yet."
If this is a good idea, maybe it should be the default.
