I just updated to 7.4G and have two problems. I tried OLC and got the
following. Can anyone help me?

Topic: workstations

Question:
I have a privatized DECstation 3100 running 7.4G. I am trying to
modify my sendmail.cf to have my default address be "$#ether$@$D$:$1"
(rar@mit.edu) instead of rar@Athena.mit.edu". I have made the mod to
sendmail.cf in the past and it seems to have worked. Now it seems to
reset sendmail.cf with a default copy dated July 18, 1991 each time I
reboot the machine. I have been editing the copy in /etc. Is there
something else I have to do to prevent the system from reverting my
changes?

Hi there. Unfortunately, I'm afraid we do not support problems dealing
with privatization of machines. (This is for a few reasons, the largest
of which being that we have neither the resources nor the documentation
for experimentation of this sort.) You should contact the Network
Services Helpline, at x3-4101, or you can obtain the specific
documentation for private workstations from the Customer Services Supv, at
x3-0118. (You probably won't reach anyone today, because it's a National
Holiday.)

Sorry I could not be of further help. If you have more questions/comments,
please don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, please type 'done' at the olc>
prompt. Thanks for using OLC!

Thanks. At the risk of getting the same answer, I also noticed that
my rc.local was not getting executed. Do you have any idea why?

Also, do you have a email address for the Network group or better, the
7.4 developer group?

Um...your fears have been confirmed. Again, I'm not familiar with the
problem, so I don't think I can help you there.

If you want to report problems with the release, you can send mail to
"testers@athena". The release group subscribes, as do other people.
However, if you're only looking for information, you should probably get a
copy of the 7.4 System Notes and Programmer's Notes first. (These are
available free of charge in our office, 11-115, and several Graphic Arts
centers.)
