Adding the following resource to your .Xresources will do as you wish.
While I'll admit it's not exactly easy, it does work...
I'll say now that this may easily not work in the next release, as well,
so you may need to do some customization then, too. Hopefully by the
next release, it will be easier to customize than it is now. I'll try
to keep it as compatible as possible, though.
