Ezra,
To start out, I didn't have any problems with rescanning on Friday.
Today, somewhere close to 1:00 to 2:30 I had the same problems again,
but they weren't as extensive as last Thursday.
Here's my .Xresources file:
xbiff*Geometry: 64x68+0-125
xbiff*borderWidth: 2
xbiff*Interval: 300
xbiff*checkCommand: msgchk -nonotify nomail
xbiff*reverseVideo: on
xbiff*borderColor: black
XTerm*scrollBar: True
XTerm*marginBell: True
Seems like most of the stuff in it is pretty old. I use the scroll bars
and the margin bell, but the xbiff stuff is not current, or useful anymore.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks,

Can you send me a copy of your .Xresources file so i can see if anything
you have in there might be related to the problem? I believe you when
you say it is happening, but it is not happening for me, which makes me
believe it might be something special to your configurations...
