Subject: vax 7.4D: afs? renew?
Date: Wed, 03 Jun 92 10:08:13 EDT
From: Beth Kevles (Full Time Consultant) <kevles@Athena.MIT.EDU>

System name: caliban
Type and version:	CVAXSTAR 7.4D
Display type: SM

What were you trying to do?

I was logged in as "kevles". Then I did "access_on" in one window, and
in another window telnet'd back to caliban. (And immediately did
"access_off".) In the telnet window I logged in as "docsourc". As
docsourc, I opened up an emacs window (which I never tried to write to)
and an ez window.

What's wrong:

When I tried to write to the ez window it told me the file was read
only. The file was one in the logos locker which I (as docsourc) have
been working on for the last month. I checked with fs la, and the
permissions are still rlwidka for docsourc. I typed "renew" in the
docsourc window. I still was unable to write the file. I even exited
ez, typed renew, and then started a new ez. No luck.

What should have happened:
I should have been able to write the file to which I have write
access. Even if my tickets had gotten scrambled, renew should have
fixed the problem.

Please describe any relevant documentation references:

The docsourc account is highly customized, but all in standard ways.
When I use it, I run the "kevles" alias (since it's a shared account).
This sources a file of my favorite aliases. docsourc's dotfiles appear
to be world readable.

man renew
