tty driver bug on RT?

A tty driver (I think) bug on the RT has made it into 7.4 from the previous release.

How to duplicate:
(1) go into discuss, (or zwrite, etc.)
(2) type some text, then a "\" and now hit <BACKSPACE>.
(3) the "\" will turn into a "^?" that *cannot* be erased.
